Warm Weather Deer Care
Deer Hunting Tips: The bow hunting season is an excellent time of the year to harvest a deer. There is an abundance of food sources available that often allows for better patterning. The high temperatures that are usually associated with bow season however, do present hunters with problems. Hunters need to take extra care in the processing of warm weather deer.
Deer taken during warm conditions are more susceptible to the meat spoiling. For this reason, hunters need to act quickly in field dressing the deer. The entrails need to be removed and the chest needs to be opened up to allow for cooling. The inside of the deer needs to be wiped down with a clean paper towel to remove any moisture. This will help reduce the chances of bacteria. Do not rinse the deer with water unless absolutely necessary.
Bags of ice need to be placed inside the chest cavity of the deer as soon as possible. This will aid in the cooling process. The deer should be skinned and hung in a walk in cooler. If one is not available, the deer needs to be quartered. Line a chest cooler with bags of ice and place the quartered deer meat on top of the ice. Place more bagged ice on top of the meat. Carry to butcher or keep on ice until ready to cut up.
Follow these deer hunting tips for better warm weather field dressing care. As always be safe and good luck.
